Case Studies in the Landscape

What is a case study?

In the context of landscape design, a case study is a usually a project or element used to illustrate an idea, principle, or thesis.

Why do we use them?

When starting projects, it is sensible to draw from and build upon the wealth of information that already exists. You may wish to use a case study as evidence that an idea you have may work in your scenario.

What do we include

This really depends on what you are using it for. If it is simply for in office use to explore your concepts you may just put together a palette of images. If you are using it for study or to go with a submission to stakeholders in your project, you may wish to include information such as:

• Name of Project

• Location

• The scope of the project

• Why it is a good example to use

• How it relates to your project

• What can be taken from this and what is not appropriate for your site

• What does it prove that is important to your project
