Formal Garden Design

What makes a formal design?

Formal gardens rely on strict geometry in shapes and in placement of items in relation to axes. In general, they are more manicured than informal gardens and rely on plantings staying withing their zones with repeatable form.

Common Styles

Formal French

Symmetry is a strong part of French formal design. Order is to be created within the space.
