GARDEN DESIGN CHALLENGE - Genius Loci

Design challenge for capturing the sense of place in a garden

Brief

Create a garden capturing the genius loci of its context.

The garden is for Charles and Janet. They are in their late 40’s and have a child primary school.

They inherited a property in Carlton, Vic, Australia from their deceased father. They would like to capture the history of the suburb and their father’s life in the garden. Their father started in a factory job making smallgoods. He had a passion for coffee and trains.

They are willing to do approximately 1 hour of maintenance a week.

Functionally they would like

  • somewhere to eat outside for up to 8 people and

  • a small shed for their garden tools.

  • Play spot for the child

  • Fruit and / or veg

Outputs

  • Board of Inspirational images that captures the colour scheme you are trying to

  • At least 4 schematic sketches

  • A coloured final schematic sketch
